Lancaster Website

The church, originally built in 1849 to serve the Presbyterian community, was purchased in 1850 and served as the site of Old Good Shepherd Church. Purchased by Irish and German Catholics who worked on the railroad, Father Lancaster ran the church and helped the community. Located at the intersection of Wapping Street and St. Clair, the church was enhanced with a grand steeple and parapets in front of the building and around the bell tower, which gives it a European Castle or Cathedral feeling. These features make for a scenic picture as you cross the “Singing Bridge”. The interior of the church has some fantastic architectural features that portray a Gothic Revival church. The high ceilings signify the building climbing towards Heaven. The stained glass windows, stations-of-the-cross, and the pipe organ in the balcony have all been kept “as is” to enhance the building’s rich heritage. In addition to the church, the lot adjacent to the church has been transformed into beautiful gardens with an abundance of design that will be radiant in any season. The gardens are equipped with a covered stage, handicap accessible walk ways, and an area to house a 40’ X 50’ covered tent, adjacent to the restrooms. Venue Rental The Lancaster at St. Clair has been renovated to accommodate special events, such as wedding ceremonies, receptions/banquets, anniversary celebrations, Corporate Events/Seminars, Non-profit events, rehearsal dinners, proms, social functions, and all other events that encourage celebration.
